Morden

The Community

Four hamlets make up Morden: Morden (where the Cock and Bottle Pub and brilliant Village Hall are), East Morden (where the church is), West Morden and Whitefields as well as a large swathe of Wareham Forest, on the other side of the A35. The main village annual event is the Flower and Produce Show, which is held in Church towards the end of August with classes for everyone from high class crafts to a jam jar of weeds and much in between!

The Church Community

We usually have a service every Sunday at 8am, 11am, or 6pm. We have a range of services across the month including our All Age services which encourage participation from people of all ages in both the congregation and the very talented “Morden Orchestra”. Don’t be put off the the title – we welcome people of all abilities with whatever musical instrument to come and join us! The church is often packed for major festivals including harvest, carol services, Easter and our benefice service at Pentecost which is followed by a BBQ at the Viacarage. We have an enthusiastic team of bell ringers (link) who have done very well in recent competitions encourage new people interested to come along to practices on Wednesday evening.
We are well-equipped with children’s toys and activities and look forward to welcoming people of all ages to join us.

Our Building

The church was largely re-built in the 1880’s, retaining the lower part of the old mediaeval tower. The main churchyard is closed and there is a small adjoining burial ground owned and operated by the Parish Council. The 5 ancient bells were restored for the millennium. There are currently exciting plans underway for internal works at St Mary’s which we hope to see bearing fruit in the next 12 months
